Gaining entry to gas

Can anyone give me help/advice on how to get into a career in gas engineering.

When i left school i wanted to work in the building & construction industry but my parents to told me 'electronics is the future son'.

I enjoyed college and left with a NC/HNC/HND in electronics. I always knew i could not do this job forever. To cut a long story short i want a job as a gas service engineer or in the installation side. I have been on british gas's website for ages but there is nothing coming up.

There are places that offer training but i dont fancy packing my job in when there is no promise of a job at the end of it. I hear the exam's are hard going too.

Ideally i would like to do the CCN1 and other elements in my spare time if i could find a place that does it.

Can anybody help?

Thanks
